You draw some interesting conclusions about Apple Care. I never purchased it. In Europe at least, one gets 2 year warranty, and beyond that manufacturer defects still get resolved for free under consumer law for another 2-4 years. So, I would argue there is a 3rd reason why people don't purchase Apple care, other than high confidence or not caring - not needing it.
