Well, see, that’s where you’d be wrong. Given that this machine replaced a base Air model, it wasn’t necessarily meant to deliver what my 15” Pro does with 16GB of RAM. However, I did want to see how much of it could with the new M1 architecture. Remember, Apple advertises the PRO M1 as something incredibly powerful. I am not claiming it is not. I am claiming though, that no matter how fast and efficient that CPU is, the base amount of RAM and SSD will be its bottleneck. Isn’t that true for the Intel version too? Sure. But these machines are not meant to be merely replacements but orders of magnitude beyond what Intel can offer. I think it’s always interesting to see what the lowest spec machine can deliver. It definitely does more than my Intel Air did, but less than my Intel Pro does in its current configuration. This article merely highlights that no, the base M1 13 Pro is not a replacement for the base Intel 15 Pro as many suggested in the early days.
