Unfortunately not enough engineers understand that engineering isn’t just coding, and coding isn’t the ultimate skill. As a staff software engineer I spend only 40-50% of my time coding and some of that is spikes, POCs and trying to figure out stuff for the team ahead of time. Everything else I do, varies a lot, but to me this evolution makes sense and wouldn’t want it any other way.
