This happened to me in January 2022. I uploaded a scanned passport page and I also think I took a selfie. That was it. I asked customer support why they suddenly needed it and said that government regulations require them to periodically check. I also think this only kicks in after a certain amount of transactions happening. The rules vary by country though. For context, I am in Ireland. I would not blame Stripe here. They would be the happiest not to have to deal with verification. Just give them what they ask for and use a regular bank account for receiving the funds.
