The platform doesn’t. The naive and desperate people do who still click on their stuff and praise them for their mostly empty thoughts. The platform could step in and limit their exposure but then you’re running into democracy problems. Medium itself was created to elevate everyday people and their voices and give them a place to write. This results in stories that are at least New York Times level quality, but also bullshit like Tim and Zulie sell. People like to read hope so that’s what Tim and Zulie sell. It costs them nothing and the “help” it provides is just a momentary “rush” of inspiration which fizzles out as soon as they come back from the toilet they were sitting on as they read it. So, tomorrow, they’ll need another one, and the likes of Zulie and Tim will be there to feed them again. It’s a drug and I think what they’re doing is predatory and I have a right to feel this way.
