The long queues days before the iPhone release. The heated debates about Apple being the one and only tech company that matters. The Apple fans like me, who will more readily consider spending thousands on a Mac than a root-canal treatment. Perhaps that last one is a slight exaggeration, I do like keeping my teeth, but you get the point. There are millions and millions of humans — people like you and me — who consider Apple an integral part of their lives and have done so for decades. And this, this is what the EU in its infinite lack of tech wisdom doesn’t seem to comprehend in their latest Digital Markets Act.

Those of us, EU citizens, we more often than not, have a love-hate relationship with its government. How could we not? On the one hand, the presence of the EU and its laws and regulations have made Europe stronger than ever and have helped raise living standards across the board. Anyone doubting that, should just have a brief look at Great Britain and its dizzying decline. On the other hand, the EU also has an increasingly worrisome fetish for regulating anything it can think of. Frankly, I’m surprised migratory birds and their travel patterns haven’t yet been debated in the EU…
