The Dutch need to educate themselves a bit on how credit cards actually work. It’s infinitely safer to buy something on credit card with the bank’s money than your own debit card. If something goes wrong with the purchase, it’s not your job any more to recover the money, but the bank’s. Also there is no interest on credit if you pay it back within 30 days. It’s also safer carrying a credit card than a debit card with who knows how much cash on it. While in Europe credit rating isn’t as big a thing as in the US, having proof that you always pays off the credit card on time, helps when you want to borrow a bigger sum or even a mortgage.
