The 9s attention-span “myth” that I am familiar with was the result of a research that Facebook did a good number of years ago. It was published then it grew arms and legs. Not sure if any other research out there is connected to it or not, but I know the Facebook one was pretty often quoted (still is here on Medium by those who love writing shortform stories).
