That you don't care about the dear readers' sentimental nostalgia about LEGO is fine. The pragmatist in me understands it. That you care about the environment as much as I do, also understandable, but the fact that your sources are far too old to be relevant and some of your claims are outright wrong, is less understandable, so just like you felt the need to educate, allow me to do the same.
1. LEGO has already started moving to paper begs instead of plastic.
2. For their pick-a-brick-walls, they started moving to paper boxes instead of plastic (reusable) cups.
3. All their foliage pieces are made of plants-based, degradable plastic.
4. LEGO has moved away from ABS years ago.
5. LEGO very rarely ends up in the environment because it's highly valuable so people keep reselling it decades later.
6. There is virtually no LEGO brick that is single use. Anyone who says that, needs to develop their imagination. LEGO can help with that.
7. The claim that LEGO is for boys, is outdated. The shops are full of all genders and many LEGO sets actually target girls and women.
I understand what you're trying to do, but please do better research next time.
