Self-Help Articles Are The New Pyramid Scheme
Maybe get a real job and sell something useful…
The term MLM — short for multi level marketing — has been around for a while. Some call it a business-model, but luckily many countries around the world were smart enough to see it was nothing but a scam where everybody sold stuff, and no one got anything out of it. This shady business-model started getting traction on the web as well, and its best-known form is self-help. It’s everywhere. Substack, Medium, Amazon, Gumroad. You name the platform, and someone is probably already selling it!
At this point half the internet is selling “how to” advice on getting rich, happy, laid, fat, slim, attractive, independent, etc. In and of itself, this would not be a problem. Advice coming from highly experienced professionals with a proven track-record is always welcome. There are genuine job roles like financial advisor, matchmaker and psychologist. All people who have spent years learning their craft and can show you stats proving both their input and the resulting output. Everyone else, just a prosperity gospel preacher without a tent, but an equally huge ego, and a keyboard for a pulpit.
The reality behind the sale
Just like with organised religion where your salvation is sold to you through…
