Pretty interesting read, your comment. Much appreciate your perspective. One thing that stood out for me was your analogy with oxygen. You see, if we’d be more careful about protecting our planet, we’d get that for free, so I would argue that it might not be the best example to illustrate your point. Perhaps the article doesn’t go into this enough, but I have no real issue with a more socialist approach to open source. In fact, I would love to see a society where there is no need for payment and people endeavour to create a better world and sustain each other’s needs through careful planning and forethought. In the current world we live in, however, where unless you have money, you’re dead, I just don’t see how else we can sustainably fund open source.
