One of my best friends uses a hub as well, and he's super pleased with that setup. I think the fans do come on more often than we hear them, but at low speed they're incredibly quiet. I think I heard them twice in 6 months on the M1 Pro and Max. I like the Touch Bar, but once it went away I couldn't say it has a big loss.
