Oh wow! This is massive! Thanks a million for this. I must say I am not surprised and always had a hunch something fishy was going on even many years ago when suddenly we all started counting CPU value in gigahertz, more and more of them, like it was some crazy race. Then came the multi-core race and what used to be the standard 350Watt PSU, was suddenly entirely obsolete and replaced by 600Watts, as if electricity grew on trees. I am super chuffed to see I am not the only one proposing energy ratings for computers. Why should they be any different from any other household electrical device? I wonder if there are any ongoing petitions around this topic. Must check.
