Made the "mistake" over a year or so ago of pointing out that git's master branch has nothing to do with slavery, but the old concept of master records and mastering (which is still btw alive and well in the music industry). OMG, the lecturing I got for being "insensitive". I'm pretty sure it's more insensitive to fellow humans not knowing one's native language enough to get the nuance and have an intelligent conversation. And English is not even my first, or second language, but third, and was still aware of this "little detail" that many offended militants couldn't seem to grasp.
I had my fair share of "shut up, I'm an English teacher" conversations too. They all seem to forget that there's a very wide range (unfortunately) of teachers out there, anywhere between utter shite to best effin' that ever lived.
