I think you make a good point that managers who are technical are good to have, but that's really it. Being technical does not mean one is a good coder or a coder at all. My dad is technical, yet he still struggles to understand how I manage to make money on the computer. If Elon would have said, "it's good for software engineering managers to have some technical background" I would have agreed with him. But, no, he got overzealous and went all in with his opinion. 🙂
