Interesting story and regardless of the code author's history and behaviour, I have to admit I've been thinking about this a lot too. So many (almost without exception) companies that are making serious cash are relying on free stuff off the internet to build their empires. I don't think that's OK. That system to me sounds utterly broken, which is also why I am on the fence about open source itself. I think a new model needs to be introduced, somewhere between open and closed-source.
