Interesting and great to have some close insider view on this. Sadly, my experience is not much better. With nearly every CPU upgrade I made myself or a customer in the past, I tended to end up having to advise on PSU and cooling upgrade too. It's frustrating to see a kid excited about getting a new CPU for their machine, having the exact cash they need and be told, it won't be enough because of something entirely out of their hands - high energy consumption.
