I would actually argue that we weren't on the right track. While the tech boom was indeed happening, the rest of the industries were falling behind creating a bigger and bigger gap between social classes even in places where society is classless. The world was fucked for many since 2008 and never really recovered. The housing ladder for many is but a dream since then and will stay so for the foreseeable future. What we are seeing in tech is a bit of a bubble bursting, which was inevitable. Still a good industry to be in, but I think as it matures, tech also becomes less of a gold-rush industry. The TikTok trends are just a proof of how many braindead folks this planet has to put up with, nothing more. They were there before, but now they're visible.
