I have a different take on this. Having used an 8GB model M1 in the past, I can tell you, it just about gets by for regular use. Add AI to that and you're killing performance on basic tasks. The reason this isn't a problem on the iPads and iPhones is because it's a different operating system used in different ways. For instance, you're not developing software on your iOS or iPadOS devices. You need to be able to do that AND still run AI on macOS to maybe help with coding or whatever else. No chance doing that smoothly and productively with 8GB of RAM.
