I don't think it's a Medium thing. I think it's a content creation and arts thing. You'll have even famous artists release songs than never end up trending, while others for incomprehensible reasons, stay in top 10 for weeks. Even big names have often only a handful of work that truly made a killing in terms of income. It's not as common knowledge, because people only like bragging about success.
