I don't think it's a men vs. women thing. I had plenty men sit next to me on airplanes for example take up far more space than necessary. Having said that, I had women do that too with their bags and coats and God knows what else. I would consider this more of a parenting problem rather than a gender issue. After all it's all about showing a bit of respect for everyone else regardless of gender.
