I actually think that still works, buuuut... what definitely changes all the time, and even more so in the last decade or two is who is considered an interesting person. Whether we like it or not, half the media consumers are now our age or younger, which means that when topics are chosen, what worked 10-15 years ago, that now only speaks to maybe 30% of the population, and that number will keep shrinking.

Tom Scott on YouTube is a good example of how to tackle seemingly boring topics and still get eyes on it.
