Hold on David. That's not how it works. In order for your statement to be correct, you'd have to have a paragraph in your contract saying that upon termination the company reserves the right to further ruin your career by slander and public humiliation. That however isn't in the contract, because if it were, nobody would sign it. The problem isn't the layoff here, but how it was done and under what pretext.
