Hmm. Me finds Medium's reaction a little extreme. There are plenty more articles full of vitriol, yet somehow those get to thrive on the platform, so if Medium wants to be fair, it needs to take those down too. Punishing the publication owner and the entire community of writers is also over the top. A three-strike or points system would be much fairer where one gradually gets warned, then loses certain rights on the platform, for instance getting demonetised for x number of weeks, barred from publishing for a while, etc. I didn't read the article in question, because I knew it would boil my blood, no matter how objective I like to stay, the sheer hate oozing from the lines would have triggered me. I am of the opinion of "live and let live", and while that article violated that in every way, I don't think Medium's reaction here is much better either. I would have suspended the writer for a month, with the warning that another article like that could result in 6 months' suspension and a third in a full year. I don't believe in cancel culture, I sure hope Medium doesn't either. This should be a teachable moment for everyone rather than a moment of punishment with irreversible repercussions. Medium also needs to improve and give editors tools. What we have at the moment is practically nothing.
