Congrats! In my experience slow and steady also works and results in organic growth. The biggest mistake most new writers here do is jump on the Medium bandwagon as if it were their full-time job, then get disappointed and rant, or bend over backwards, or even worse, write utter nonsense just to get reads which ultimately works against them and reduces the platform's overall quality. Medium was always intended for people who like to write, just like YouTube for those who love making videos. Those who like writing should write about the stuff they care about, when they can, on the side, for a year or even two, and I guarantee they'll start seeing growth. Like with any creative platform, the initial investment is huge, so one either acknowledges that, or just looks at it as a fun wee hobby for a while that will eventually generate income.
